Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival

Bloom in the Bay

Lara Bui & Isaac Weston

Cool Plants, Re.Work.It & Isaac Weston Artist

The Bay of Plenty land and sea are the inspiration behind Lara Bui and Isaac Weston’s concept garden. The garden’s main feature will be the totems or pou whenua which, in their design, reflect the Kaimai ranges, Wairoa River and stingray of the inner harbour. The artwork will incorporate copper into locally-sourced railway sleepers and will stand with a feature tree – Acer palmatum Bloodgood. Lara and Isaac will incorporate elements of horse racing into the garden edging in a  respectful nod to the Tauranga Racecourse.

Isaac is a Tauranga artist whose design process incorporates fire, water, air and acids to reveal the hidden elements of metal. His work can be seen at galleries and garden centres throughout the North Island under the brands of “Re.Work.It” and “Isaac Weston Artist”. Lara runs local indoor plant company Cool Plants, and her background is in landscape and design. This will be their second concept garden for the BOP Garden and Art festival.
