Local artist Mandy Williams is back with a new series of artworks celebrating ‘play’ with a 70s twist and Palm Springs feel. The festival offers the opportunities for viewers to fall in love with these new artworks with their vibrant colours and mesmerising faces.

The owners of Piccola Lante, Fraser & Gill, are looking forward to receiving new visitors and returning ones to their garden in 2024. Gill is excited to share her new art pieces and also some beautiful images on canvas of some of the most beautiful villages in France, as well as some of the stunning Chateaux down the Loire Valley.

Piccola Lante is a Italian renaissance designed garden, with a relaxing Tuscan vibe. This garden is on 2 levels featuring clipped hedging, potager, loggia, picking garden & potted geraniums on pillars with water features and a rill linking the levels. Bordering onto a reserve, the garden has the added benefit of mature trees and rolling hillside.

Last week we gathered together to celebrate it being "one year out" from the 2024 Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival! Our amazing gardeners, artists, board, sponsors, funders and committees mingled and enjoyed the delicious catering by @elizabethtauranga . It was a fun night, as captured through the lens of photographers @mediamastersnz .

Tauranga metal artist and photographer Ninette Kru

Tauranga metal artist and photographer Ninette Kruger specialises in one-of-a-kind handcrafted botanical and ocean-inspired metal art for discerning nature-lovers. Her work is stylish and elegant and highlights the diversity found in the natural world. Her highly textured pewter and copper wall art is often informed by her monochrome nature photography.

Jo Tricker's glass art is stunning, and our festival attendees will have the pleasure of seeing her work again in Nov 2024!

Jo is excited to announce: “In previous Bay of Plenty Garden and Art festival's I have exhibited in other people’s gardens which has been fabulous! However, in 2024 I will be exhibiting in my own 63 sq m studio for the first time and I am very excited to be able to show people ‘behind-the-scenes’ - the glass kilns and gas torch processes."

More about Jo's art
"I am fascinated by glass - by its ability to transform itself from a solid to a liquid and back to a solid again! For me it is the endless fascination of where science and art meet." Jo Tricker uses fusing, casting and flameworking techniques…and her medical laboratory background directly influences these glass processes. Artistically, she is inspired by world cultures and a love of colour and pattern, as well as English literature, family history, and performance art.

Prepare to be charmed by the large country garden that can be found at this address, with its beautiful harbour views and sweeping lawns down to the waterfront. Large, established trees frame the property while mixed beds featuring hydrangeas, rhododendrons, roses and dogwoods form the house gardens. Beyond the house, foliage gardens overlook the duck pond.

Who has loads of Broad Beans? Here is an awesome recipe from @isaac_weston_artist (who was a chef in a previous life) to use them up, whilst enjoying a delicious and nutritious meal. This recipe is gluten free but you can replace GF flour with normal flour.

Isaac's Green Fritter Mix

2 cups broad beans (out of their pods)
2 handfuls of uncooked spinach
1 egg
1/2 cup gluten free flour
1Tbsp curry powder
1tsp salt
1 clove garlic
1/2 block of crumbled feta cheese
(You can add any other veggies ie: peas, broccoli)

To make:
In a food processor, blend the egg, spinach, 1/2 of broad beans, curry powder, garlic, salt and flour together until it forms a batter. Fold in remaining broad beans, and the crumbled feta.

Pan fry batter mix in oil 2-3 minutes on each side. use a couple of tablespoons of mix per fritter.
Serve with tomato kasundi and hummus. Enjoy! :)

Back Studio is a unique art nexus where resident artist Jacki Barklie makes art, runs workshops, and collaborates with inspiring creative practitioners.

We asked Jacki, what are you excited about for next years Festival?
"Both myself and the studio have evolved over the past year. Back Studio is my happy place. I am lucky to have the space to immerse in the making of art on the daily. This big space allows me to turn to almost every creative endeavour I have in my head. From large scale corporate art, to the tune of 11 meters long, to tiny affordable art for someone who wants to collect original art on a budget. You will find art of all genres in this inspiring studio I can’t wait to share with you folk what I have been up to. Join me for the studio visit in the Garden & Art Festival 2024."

About Jacki Barklie:
It is the human psyche and the way people connect with each other and their spaces that has sustained Jacki Barklie’s love for making art for more than 30 years. She often draws from her exposure to culture and colourful upbringing in Africa.
Jacki is a multi-disciplinary artist, she works across a range of mediums including acrylics, printmaking , photography, textile art and more recently three dimensional work. It’s her curiosity in the making of art where she likes to experiment with materials and methods, pushing the process further in an attempt to create a tension in her art, often indoctrinated and spontaneous endeavouring to celebrate the unusual rather than the normal.
