Known for her vibrant, expressive style, Sue MacDougall creates bold and colourful works using acrylics, oil pastels, and pencils. Her intuitive approach to painting brings energy, texture, and rhythm to every piece, layering movement and emotion through spontaneous mark-making.
Her work has been recognised both locally and abroad, including being named Supreme Art Award winner by the Tauranga Art Society in 2025, and making the Extended Longlist (top 25%) of the 2025 Jackson’s Art Prize in London out of nearly 13,000 global entries. Sue’s garden studio is a serene, light-filled retreat tucked behind her Maungatapu home, overlooking the estuary.
During Open Studios, she invites visitors to explore her space and enjoy a hands-on mark-making activity, a relaxed and engaging way to connect with her creative process.
Born in New Zealand, Sue is deeply influenced by the natural world around her, as well as the rhythm and richness of Mediterranean landscapes. Every September, Sue hosts her Love My Greece Art and Meditation Retreats on Aegina Island. These are immersive experiences designed to nurture creativity and personal growth for small, like-minded groups.
