Arlene Foster is a self-taught jeweller and silversmith whose work combines technical skill with playful exploration. Working primarily in silver, she employs a wide range of techniques, wax carving, forging, chain making, oxidisation, gold fusion, and object setting to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Her materials include resin, shell, vintage glass, recycled jewels, and natural stones. Arlene is currently learning the art of stone cutting and shaping, adding yet another layer of craftsmanship to her evolving practice.
Influenced by the natural world, non-traditional forms, and all things sparkly, Arlene brings a background in music, community arts, and cast glass to her jewellery. Her work sits at the intersection of thoughtful design and expressive detail.
Arlene will exhibit her work at Te Toutouwai Studio (Robyne Dowdall), a space well-suited for both large vessel pieces and delicate jewellery. This successful pairing was part of the inaugural Open Studios, and the duo returns again this year with engaging displays, a welcoming atmosphere, and live demonstrations.
