David Henderson is a painter and printmaker with a deep-rooted passion for woodblock and lino printing. A graduate of the Dunedin School of Art, his work is grounded in the traditional techniques passed down from mentors Marilyn Webb and Chris de Jong, yet made uniquely his own through a blend of technical skill and personal storytelling.
Now based in Arataki with his wife and two young sons, David balances his creative practice with teaching painting and printmaking at Ōtūmoetai College. His studio practice is meditative and tactile, the process of carving just as meaningful as the finished piece. David often invites his sons into the process, incorporating their spontaneous choices into larger works. The result is a body of art that feels both refined and joyfully collaborative.
Visitors to his converted garage studio can expect to see his printing press in action, with live demonstrations of woodblock printing and bamboo etching throughout the Open Studios weekend.
