Graham Young paints the essence of Aotearoa’s laid-back lifestyle, capturing nostalgic, often-overlooked corners of New Zealand in oil on canvas. His work pays homage to rural scenes, coastal towns, and suburban moments, featuring weathered caravans, classic vehicles, and iconic buildings that speak to a gentler pace of life.
These are visual time capsules, familiar yet fading, preserved through Graham’s distinctive brushwork and careful composition. Widely exhibited throughout the country, Graham’s paintings have also been published in calendars, prints, and two books documenting his art and travels. He works full-time from his studio nestled in the garden of his home at Waihi Beach.
With large doors opening onto a sunlit deck, the studio offers a welcoming glimpse into his creative process. Original works and a selection of prints will be available during the Open Studios event. Visitors will also be able to view the adjoining pottery studio of Graham’s wife, Ingrid, adding another creative layer to the garden setting.
