This 1880’s historic garden has been the subject of a mentoring programme – under the talented eye of Tauranga landscape architect Nichola Vague – that has involved restoring it to some degree of its former glory. The colour of years gone by will be reintroduced in the border gardens. Some of the garden’s original plants – namely camelia, kowhai, roses and a pear tree, for example – remain. These days the garden is approximately half the size of its original plot, which once included an orchard.
