Born in the Netherlands and based in New Zealand since childhood, Christie Cramer is recognised for her bold and vibrant use of colour. Her work seeks to uplift, conveying the positive energy she experiences through the act of painting.
Working primarily in acrylics, Christie uses layered washes and glazes to build intensity and depth. Her process is intuitive, allowing colour to blend and flow organically across the surface, guiding the composition’s emergence.
Often drawing from botanical subjects, she abstracts elements from the natural world – particularly light, movement, and imperfection – transforming them into expressive contemporary works.
Christie’s studio will be set up in her Gallery space (which doubles as an Airbnb) during the Open Studios weekend. She will have artwork in progress over the weekend, and you will be able to see and purchase her original artwork, as well as prints and cards. Christie will share insights into her process and have on display a selection of her handmade brushes and other painting implements.
