Nicola Welten is a Tauranga-based expressionist artist whose work radiates joy and vibrancy. Inspired by English-style gardens and New Zealand’s rural landscapes, Nicola creates bold, semi-abstract acrylic paintings that celebrate colour, movement, and the uplifting energy of nature. Her flower gardens and rolling vistas are filled with emotion and spontaneity, each brushstroke reflecting her love for the subject matter and her desire to evoke happiness in the viewer.
Working from her home studio in Bethlehem, Nicola paints full-time and exhibits widely across New Zealand, including in Wellington, Auckland, and Queenstown. Her gallery space is open to visitors during Open Studios, offering a colourful, immersive glimpse into both her creative process and finished works.
The studio occupies the front of Nicola’s home, originally a double garage now converted into a light, airy workspace and gallery. Large sliding doors allow easy entry from the street, and the space is divided into two open-plan areas, one for working and one for displaying her art.
