Working from her small, lovingly renovated studio at the Mount, Elizabeth Wood paints landscapes that pulse with colour, movement, and wonder.
Her oil paintings are rich in texture and atmosphere, reflecting a deep emotional connection to the land and the experience of being present in nature. With a bold, expressive palette and loose, confident brushwork, Elizabeth’s work explores light, mood, and place, often drawing from photographs she’s taken at different times of the day. While her inspiration is grounded in the New Zealand landscape, the themes of her art are universal: reflection, belonging, and our connection to the natural world.
Over the past five years, Elizabeth has developed a distinctive style that balances intuition with observation. Whether viewed up close or from across a room, her pieces invite the viewer to pause and find beauty in simplicity. Her work has been featured in both national and international publications including Your Home & Garden and Air New Zealand’s Kia Ora magazine.
Her studio, a prefab shed turned into a bespoke creative space by her husband, sits nestled beside their home. It’s become a local favourite, with its inviting deck, plants, and a friendly, community feel. During Open Studios, Elizabeth also displays work under a canopy and in the adjoining garage, creating an open, relaxed space where visitors can explore, connect, and linger.
